The Rowans School

Shrewsbury House Trust is pleased to announce that The Rowans School formally passed into its ownership on 31st July 2017.  Mrs Hubbard and the staff look forward to welcoming pupils and parents back on 4th September 2017 for the new term.

End of Term Message from Mrs Joanna Hubbard:

It only seems like yesterday that I arrived at The Rowans School as it has been a very busy and exciting year with great successes, as well as some sadness.  Our parents' and children's support for each other and for the school has been tremendous and all the staff feel blessed to have such a strong and happy community at The Rowans School.

The School's Events Committee and Class Reps have played a large part in arranging fairs, a quiz night, Easter Egg hunts, Father Christmas' visit (to name but a few) and our parents' generous fund raising has raised over £10,000 for our school charities:  Cancer Research and Spring of Hope in Uganda.

Closer to home, we have also had successes with our new initiatives in school.  Gardening Club is flourishing and has achieved the RHS Level 1 Award and the Level 2 Award for planting, growing and learning to use tools safely.  They have also brightened our environment and helped us to consider composting and recycling, so we look forward to progressing further up the ladder of RHS Awards.

Our international focus has also been recognised.  The British Council have awarded us the 'Intermediate British Council International School Award' and noted:-

'Your school is clearly motivated and committed to developing an international dimension to your curriculum and whole-school ethos, reflecting the multi-cultural nature of your school community.  The activities you plan enable pupils to learn about other countries and aspects of their cultures via curriculum based learning, and you have active partnerships with schools in other countries with which you have embarked on collaborative joint project work'.

We are delighted with this recognition and committed to continuing to develop an awareness of the wider world for all our children.

We are awaiting the outcome of our Travel Plan, which our Junior Travel Ambassadors have been championing this year.  As well as securing balance bikes and training for the school, they have addressed the issue of congestion on Copse Hill and safe parking in Drax Avenue.  We thank all the children and parents for their support in parking considerately and walking, cycling or scooting, where possible.

We wish all the very best to those children moving on to other schools.  They will always be part of The Rowans Family and we hope they will join us at our annual events in the future.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 4th September, especially those children who will be joining us for the first time.
